The Freelancer Mindset

Did you ever read the E-Myth by Michael Gerber? I agree that not everyone is born to sell. Some of us need help. But, before getting caught up in the game, you really have to ask yourself, “Why do I think I want to be a freelancer?”

Every reason you come up with is probably wrong!

  • Be My Own Boss
  • Make Boatloads of Money
  • Change the World

Those are tenets of the Entrepreneurial Mindset and that won’t do you a lick of good as an aspiring freelancer!

Just acknowledge that you are a technician, someone who has created a job for yourself. Then expand on that theme. You have created a job where

  • You Get to Pick Your Clients
  • You Get to Set Your Rates
  • You Get to Help a Few People

Anything beyond that becomes your personal driving force, which is a good thing, as long as you recognize that such force does not define the mindset.
